October 4, 2025. Mark it. Circle it. Tell anyone who has ever worn cleats to remember it. Super Soccer Saturday, Ridgewood High Schools annual celebration of soccer, is back and it is far more than a day of games. It is a gathering of community, of history, and of pure Ridgewood pride. Players, coaches, parents, alumni, and fans come together not just to watch soccer, but to celebrate a tradition that has united the community for years.
Super Soccer Saturday features all six Ridgewood High School teams, girls and boys, freshman through varsity, competing in a full day of scheduled games and activities. This year, all teams will face Bergen Tech. Victory is the goal, and every pass, shot, and save counts, but Super Soccer Saturday is bigger than the scoreboard. Marissa Madison, Ridgewood High School’s head varsity girls coach, emphasizes the border purpose: “Super Soccer Saturday is a really special event where the entire program gets to be together and represent the Ridgewood soccer community at the high school level. An event like this is really important for players to realize that soccer is more than just a game; Soccer is a community building activity. It’s a nice way for us to be leaders in the community.”
This sense of community carries throughout the entire day, and is especially evident when younger Maroons and Ridgewood Soccer Association players join varsity athletes for the late games. Stepping onto the turf is a rite of passage that has inspired countless young athletes. Baba Ly, an alumni of the boys’ program and current JV girls coach, recalled his own experience, “I can actually remember myself walking out as an eight or nine-year-old with the varsity team and I thought, in that moment, I wanted to play high school soccer.” Today, he hopes Super Soccer Saturday will inspire the next generation, just as it inspired him: “hopefully we can do that for the younger kids these days.”
Super Soccer Saturday ensures that the next generation of Ridgewood players has the support and resources to continue the program’s legacy. This day stands as one of the program’s largest annual fundraisers, with proceeds directly supporting team operations and coaches. Parents, alumni, and local businesses contribute through donations, concessions, event activities, and sponsorships. The energy of the day, fueled by cheering fans and talented players, reflects the importance of these contributions; every purchase of merchandise and snack sold helps sustain the Ridgewood program.
And as the final whistle blows, and the stands slowly empty, you realize this day is not just about goals scored or games won. It’s about the sparks in the eyes of the youngest players, the laughter echoing across the field, and the pride of a town that loves its soccer. Super Soccer Saturday leaves you smiling, hopeful, and maybe even like a little kid again, ready to lace up your cleats, chase a ball, and carry a piece of Ridgewood’s spirit wherever you go.
