December’s Club Hub: Veteran’s Club

Our Club Feature of the month is Veteran’s Club!

By Anoushka Chakraborty

“To provide opportunities to volunteer and raise money for veterans” while also “get[ing] the local RHS community involved with helping support current troops and veterans.” This earnest goal passionately described by leader Sophie Fisher captures the mission for Veteran’s Club in a nutshell. You may see them around as they work with the American Legion to plan numerous events.

One you may know that was organized by this club is the Veterans Day Brunch, which happened on Friday, November 14th. This brunch is the goal of Veteran’s Club, as “high school kids” not even in the club “got to come and have conversations with veterans and ask them about their experiences.”

They also did the Gold Star families event, “where [they were] honoring local families who lost men or women [in] service.” The basis of the club is “recognizing the members of our community who have lost people to service and honoring them.”

For those wondering what the American Legion (post ‘53) is, it’s a “club of veterans who served. Every town in the U.S and every community who has veterans has a post. It’s a community of veterans… that helps [other] veterans get things they need [like] housing [or] jobs” The Veteran Club works closely with the American Legion to lend a helping hand whenever they can.

As for future goals, the Veteran’s Club hopes to get new members as well as having people understand the purpose of the club: serving those who served and sacrificed for us.
