Girls Golf Gains Experience

As the Ridgewood High School spring athletic season remains in full swing, many teams have continued to prove how strong the Ridgewood athletics program is. Student-athletes continue to positively represent their school in their successes against local teams. One team in particular, the Ridgewood High School girls golf team, has had an outstanding performance so far this season. The hard work and determination displayed by these athletes continues to pay off tremendously with the numerous wins that accompany their efforts.

The girls golf team has played seven matches, winning five. Recently, the girls added a major win to their record in a tri-match against Immaculate Heart Academy and Westwood High School. In this exciting match, the Maroons defeated both teams, coming out victorious. What makes this win even more thrilling is the fact that the girls had just lost to Immaculate Heart Academy and managed to defeat them in this rematch. The girls were anxious and eager to face their rival IHA, once again, but knew they were well-prepared and were expecting to take home the win. Ridgewood played a strong match, leaving the golfers satisfied and proud of their achievements. Another rival the team is ready to rematch is Old Tappan High School. In a few weeks they will face off, hopefully adding to this season’s wins.

Kiley Chmiel, a junior at Ridgewood High School, is one of the captains of the team. Kiley has been extremely impressed by her team’s success and is overall pleased with the team’s ability to connect. “We have a young team this year which I believe is a benefit to the team. However, at the same time it is also one of our weaknesses. A lot of girls have not yet played on a course, so playing in matches will be a new experience for them. We graduated a lot of seniors last year, making this year all about rebuilding. Us girls continue to learn from one another and the younger players have many new strengths they can bring to the table which contributes to the team’s accomplishments,¨ Kiley explained. The girls golf team has continued to improve each year and this season has shown exactly what these girls are capable of.
